Priority Review Sessions – Youth, Gender & Social Assessment of 5 Priority Areas for the Development of Multi-Sectoral National Adaptation Plan for Belize

Centre for Applied Development Studies (CADS) along with the Belize National Climate Change Office (NCCO) recently concluded productive stakeholder priority review sessions for the “Youth, Gender & Social Assessment” component of Belize’s Multi-Sectoral National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

The sessions were focused on the  five priority areas of tourism, health, agriculture, forestry and land use, human settlement and Infrastructure through the lens of inclusivity, participation and social equity, ensuring the comprehensive representation of youth, women, and diverse community perspectives in Belize’s climate adaptation frameworks.

The two(2) half-day workshops in Corozal and Dangriga brought together key stakeholders to review and contribute to the findings of the assessment. Participants informed on climate exposure and risks which contribute to the vulnerabilities these groups face. Participants also identified local level adaptation measures to enhance resilience in the communities where they live.

The sessions yielded valuable insights that will strengthen Belize’s climate adaptation strategy. Our team remains committed to supporting evidence-based climate change planning that addresses the needs of women, men, female and male youth, particularly those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
