Project Description: Information Technology/Accounting & Finance

In pursuit of sustainable fisheries and informed organisational and strategic decision making, the Toledo Institute for Development and the Environment (TIDE), the Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Future of Fish (FoF) with support from the European Union (EU) supported the National Fishermen Cooperative Society Limited to strengthen the institutional capacity of the cooperative model in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This project was to immediately advance efforts to improve governance, financial and accounting systems, product processing and management of fishery in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Services Provided:

Our team provided technical assistance to advance fishing best practice efforts by strengthening the cooperative’s efforts and capacity to use technology infrastructure to leap-frog capacity building; improve efficiency and accountability through its fiduciary roles; support the enhancement and incentivising of of cooperative membership and staff through sound governance and decision making; enable consideration for expansion of product market reach; and, introduce communication and membership management through engagement aligned with the cooperative rules and principles. 

The specific outputs from this consultancy were: Manufacturing Adjustment alignment and consistency with HAACP, including and accompanying CAPEX plan, Local Market Product Demand report, Governance and Communication Analysis and Strategy, IT equipment installation and staff training, and online accounting and financial reporting update and training.
